Aging at home, thriving in community

Welcome to Eastside Village!

Eastside Village is not a place — it’s a plan for living well at home, surrounded by community.

Eastside Village is a nonprofit membership organization serving adults 55 and older in East Portland. Founded in 2015 and modeled after the Village movement that began in the early 1990s in Boston, it is built on the idea that neighbors of all ages can support older adults in living actively and independently in the homes and communities they love. Today, Eastside Village includes approximately 230 members across 23 neighborhoods, supported by about 90 volunteers.  The neighborhoods are listed below.

As a membership organization, Eastside Village brings people together in meaningful ways. Members enjoy social gatherings, cultural outings, and lifelong learning, along with practical, day-to-day support — such as rides to appointments, help with small household tasks, technology assistance, and more. Whether it’s changing a light bulb, tackling a decluttering project, or lending a hand at a one-time garden work party, help is neighborly, flexible, and shared.

Eastside Village is proudly volunteer-driven. Many members are also volunteers, offering a ride, a skill, or simply a friendly presence. The organization warmly welcomes others who would like to get involved — especially those interested in driving or helping with small but meaningful tasks.

At its heart, Eastside Village is about connection, purpose, and peace of mind — knowing that support is nearby and that you are part of something bigger than yourself.

Those curious to learn more are invited to attend one of Eastside Village’s monthly “101 Information Sessions,” held on a rotating basis in Woodstock and Mt. Tabor — a relaxed way to meet others, ask questions, and explore whether the Village is right for you.
